                    Dear Dr Speil Spiel:

Many thanks for your letter and the translations which seem to
me excellent. I'm enormously grateful to you for all the trouble
     you have taken.

           As to your queries:
             I) S schrafer scharfer Käse  is right.

             2) lufthoch is fine

             3) geil is better

             4) woner wonder here is Satuanen Staunen

             5) ẽndages means wine-harvests. I suppose origniinally a
                French word.

Now I want your help in another matter. I have been having terrib
terrible troubles with the Finanzamt. It seems that it will come
to a court case, but this is unlikely to be before the New Year
so that I shan't be here. I want to make a personal statement
of my point of view which my lawyer can read out.

If I sent you a draft, could you possibly translate it for me?

                     with many thanks

                       Yours ever

    Wystan Auden
