Dear Mr Auden,

       here are the German versions
of the three poems I was given to
translate. I have donemy best,
I think, but most probably it isn't
good enough. One could spend weeks
trying to improve on it.

       I am sending you a little
poem of my own so that you shouldnO't
think that I have never tried to
lisp in numbers.
